List of Best Movies & Tv Shows/Series Released In July 2021

No Sudden Move – July 1, 2021

No Sudden Move

Plot: Set in 1954 Detroit, a group of small-time criminals is hired to steal what they think is a simple document. When their plan goes horribly wrong, their search for who hired them weaves them through all echelons of the race-torn, rapidly changing city.

Director Steven Soderbergh knows how to play to his hand better than anyone, but this ensemble cast almost feels like a stacked deck. How are you going to say no to a crime thriller that has Don Cheadle, Benicio del Toro, Brendan Fraser, Jon Hamm, Kieran Culkin, David Harbour, and … Matt Damon? It may be a boys’ club, but No Sudden Move could be too hard to pass up.

Masters Of The Universe: Revelation –July 23, 2021

CAST: Chris Wood, Mark Hamill, Diedrich Bader, Kevin Conroy, Liam Cunningham, Susan Eisenberg, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lena Headey, Phil LaMarr, Justin Long, Jason Mewes
RATING: TV-PG
DESCRIPTION: Kevin Smith gets one of his dream assignments as executive producer and writer of this continuation of the ’80s series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. He-Man (Wood) has just come off his massive battle with Skeletor (Hamill). Teela (Gellar) is about to become man-at-arms, but goes rogue. Will Skeletor and He-Man battle once again, and what will happen to Eternia?

The Tomorrow War – July 2, 2021

The Tomorrow war

Plot: Thirty years in the future, humankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight.

Chris Pratt’s only 2021 release serves as the live-action directorial debut of Chris McKay, whose animated work you love if you’re a fan of “Robot Chicken” or The Lego Batman Movie. Sadly, we’re probably not going to get an “Everything Is Awesome” style musical number, but we’ll be waiting until the end of the credits just in case.

The Forever Purge – July 2, 2021

The Forever Purge

Plot: A sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak — instead, it should never end.

In what looks to be an exceptionally gruesome event, writer/director James DeMonaco’s franchise continues to rope in audiences with its high-concept “what would you do?” scenarios. And if you think this is the final chapter in the saga, DeMonaco recently shared that he has a story idea that might keep the Purge going forever.

Gossip Girl Season 1 – July 8, 2021

Gossip Girl

Plot: Nine years ago, the original Gossip Girl website shut down. But after a new generation of New York’s young elite takes control of private school Constance Billard, the notorious blogger remerges as the number one source into their scandalous lives.

Hey, Upper East Siders — the “Gossip Girl” reboot is finally arriving, and we’ll be perched on the Met steps, ready to meet the brand-new (and much more diverse) cast. Considering how much havoc Gossip Girl wreaked with a Blackberry, we’re excited to see what kind of shenanigans unravel in the age of Tik Tok.

Black Widow – July 9, 2021

Black Widow

Plot: Natasha Romanoff confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

We’ve been waiting a long time for Black Widow to shine in her own film, and the time is nearly here! This prequel dives into Natasha Romanoff’s early career, but we’re equally excited to see Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour joining the action to make it a family affair.

Gunpowder Milkshake – July 14, 2021

Gunpowder Milkshake

Plot: Three generations of women, all of them lethal assassins, come together to take down a ruthless crime syndicate and its army of henchmen.

Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, Carla Gugino, Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett … need we say more? This fierce cast of kickass women brings style, sass, and some John Wick-style action sequences to the upcoming revenge thriller on Netflix. We can’t wait to see this sisterhood of assassins take down the bad guys, and we bet we’re going to have a whole lot of fun doing so!

Never Have I Ever Season 2 – July 15, 2021

NEVER HAVE I EVER (L to R) MAITREYI RAMAKRISHNAN as DEVI VISHWAKUMAR, LEE RODRIGUEZ as FABIOLA TORRES, and RAMONA YOUNG as ELEANOR WONG in episode 202 of NEVER HAVE I EVER Cr. ISABELLA B. VOSMIKOVA/NETFLIX © 2021
NEVER HAVE I EVER

Plot: Season 2 of the popular Netflix show brings a new love life, a new classmate and new reasons to bicker with mom give Devi plenty more ways to make courageous moves… and questionable decisions.

Mindy Kaling’s Netflix show is incredibly smart, funny, and relatable — even if you’re not a teenage Indian girl trying to navigate the challenges of family, friendships, cultural identity, and, of course, a love triangle (of two equally great guys!). Season 1 had us both laughing and crying, and we can’t wait to see what sort of drama Season 2 has in store for Devi and the gang.

Space Jam: A New Legacy – July 15, 2021

Space Jam: A New Legacy

Plot: “American Horror Stories” is a spin-off of “American Horror Story.” The weekly anthology series will feature a different horror story in each episode.

Ryan Murphy will be serving up his nightmares in bite-sized pieces, going from self-contained seasons in “American Horror Story” to self-contained episodes in his twisted new anthology series “American Horror Stories.” I’m assuming this is because he’s come up with a million more ways to unsettle/terrify us and doesn’t want to wait around. Long-time “AHS” alum Sarah Paulson will be joining the series as director and we can’t wait to see what she’ll do in that role.

Old – July 23, 2021

Old

Plot: A family on a tropical holiday discovers that the secluded beach where they are relaxing is somehow causing them to age rapidly, reducing their entire lives into a single day.

With its single-location setting and time-boxed mystery premise, this story feels more like a “Twilight Zone” episode than a horror movie, though if I discovered that I’d die of old age by the end of the day, I’d be pretty horrified. If you can’t wait to see how it all ends, or just want to know when you should cover your eyes, M. Night Shyamalan’s screenplay is based on the graphic novel “Sandcastle” by Pierre-Oscar Lévy and Frederik Peeters, which you can pick up now.

Ted Lasso Season 2 – July 23, 2021

Ted Lasso

Plot: Ted Lasso, an American college football coach, moves to England to coach a Premier League UK football club despite knowing nothing about European football.

Golden Globe winner Jason Sudeikis is back for a second season of positivity. All of the principal cast from Season 1 is returning to the pitch with one notable addition — Sarah Niles (“I May Destroy You”) plays a sports psychologist brought in to help the struggling AFC Richmond. More good news … Apple has already greenlit Season 3. Ted Lasso is LIFE!

Snake Eyes – July 23, 2021

Snake Eyes

Plot: Snake Eyes is welcomed into the ancient Japanese clan the Arashikage after saving the life of their heir apparent. As the Arashikage teach him the ways of the ninja warrior, they also provide something he’s been longing for: a home. But when secrets from his past are revealed, Snake Eyes’ honor and allegiance will be tested — even if that means losing the trust of those closest to him.

Henry Golding shifts into action mode for this G.I. Joe franchise reboot, and I look forward to watching the terrifically choreographed fight scenes and getting a closer look at the direction the franchise plans to go next.

Jungle Cruise – July 30, 2021

Jungle Cruise

Plot: Researcher Dr. Lily Houghton hires Frank Wolff to guide her down the Amazon for her latest expedition, one that puts the unlikely duo in danger with innumerable dangers and supernatural forces.

Disney’s big summer adventure movie comes at a time when some of us have visited Disneyland itself, and we stan for the witty and daring duo of Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt supplemented with appearances by Jesse Plemons, Edgar Ramírez, and Paul Giamatti.

Outer Banks Season 2 – July 30, 2021

OUTER BANKS (L to R) CHASE STOKES as JOHN B and MADELYN CLINE as SARAH CAMERON in episode 204 of OUTER BANKS Cr. JACKSON LEE DAVIS/NETFLIX © 2021
Outer Banks

Plot: After their near-death escape, Season 2 finds John B and Sarah on the run in the Bahamas, while the stakes for Kiara, Pope, and JJ rapidly escalate at home. The $400 million is still in the game, but will the uncovering of a secret reunite the Pogues for a new mission?

I can’t remember everything that happened in the OBX during Season 1, but the low-tech/high-stakes treasure hunt that turned into an all-out thriller was solid lockdown entertainment, and I was legit enthused when Netflix finally announced the Season 2 renewal — though am I the only one who swears the show was canceled for a hot sec?

Green Knight – July 30, 2021

Green Knight

Plot: Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger, and tester of men.

The Arthurian legend gets a full-body makeover from David Lowery. We weren’t quite sure what to expect from Lowery’s vision, then the first trailer blew our minds with its next-level magical realism and seriousness of purpose. Plus there’s a talking fox, so. Ralph Ineson — who you might recognize from “Game of Thrones,” The Witch, or the last few Harry Potter movies — lends his voice to the mysterious Green Knight, whose relationship with Gawain has been discussed and interpreted for centuries.

Stillwater – July 30, 2021

Still Water

Plot: A father travels from Oklahoma to France to help his estranged daughter, who is in prison for a murder she claims she didn’t commit.

Our Take: Matt Damon gets back into Bourne mode: tough southern dad edition, for this crime thriller based loosely on the Amanda Knox case. It looks like he’ll do whatever it takes to get his kid (played by Abigail Breslin) out of jail, and we’re looking forward to seeing Damon back in an action role.

Virgin River’ Season 3 – July 9, 2021

CAST: Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Colin Lawrence, Lauren Hammersley, Annette O’Toole, Tim Matheson
RATING: TV-14
DESCRIPTION: In the third season of Netflix’s hit “warm bath” show, LA transplant Mel (Breckinridge) settles into her relationship with Jack (Henderson), but not without some bumps. Doc (Matheson) is looking to find a new town doctor after a devastating diagnosis. And the rest of the people of Virgin River will do their own quaint small town things.
